Cataract occurs when the lens opacify with age and affects our vision. The early symptoms of cataract include blurring of vision, photophobia and increase of myopia. Operation is currently the only effective treatment for cataract. The routine approach is to perform phacoemulsification to remove the opacified lens followed by intraocular lens implantation to restore clear vision.
There are various options of intraocular lens, including monofocal, multifocal, toric and enhanced depth of focus (EDOF) introacular lens. The choice of intraocular lens depends on the person's visual requirement, visual habit and requirement on distant, intermediate and near vision. Choosing an appropriate intraocular lens meeting personal requirements can reduce dependence on glasses after surgery and improve the quality of life.
